FLUmonia

On Tuesday an illness hit strong and hard. No big deal...until I looked around and realized the world wasn't standing still. Thank God for a mother in law who, in a pinch, took two days off of work and came to my rescue. Not to mention, my wonderful friend, the chicken soup of my soul, Mrs. Heavens, who comforts me and laughs at me when I say I'm going to DIIIII-EEEEEE!!! Tuesday the doctor told me I had pneumonia. I picked up the prescribed antibiotic and came home to rest while my husband took care of the evening routine. I woke up in the middle of the night for a quick toilet tryst. Luckily, I hadn't eaten all day so there wasn't much to let go of. After spending the night struggling to sleep, I decided to call the doctor first thing in the morning. I wanted to make sure vomiting was a symptom of pneumonia or of the antibiotic. I was told that I should drive BACK in to the office and have a Influenza test.

Although it was almost impossible to get up and out of the door, I finally did, realizing that the office would be more quiet and restful than my house with two children. The flu test was positive and I was so relieved because I didn't like the idea of having something that could possibly hospitalize me. Yesterday I was functioning pretty well, but still had my mother in law come and help. She is somehow able to spend an entire day in kid mode without missing a beat. There is nothing more helpful than a mother in law that's willing to jump on beds, play a boardgame with no rational thought involved, or snuggle a baby while complimenting another child on their superb artistic abilities. Today I'm feeling a little worse than yesterday and still wondering if it's possible that I have pneumonia on top of the flu. I will wait it out and IF, by Tuesday, I don't feel better, I will go back to the doctor and demand a chest x-ray. My lungs still burn and when I cough I feel as if someone is cutting off my oxygen. I'm hoping positive thinking and a restful weekend will cure all that ails me. Here are a couple of small realizations I had while sick:

  1. Cleaning toilets often and well DOES pay off. Especially when you have to wrap your arms around it and stick your head in it like some sort of lion taming circus act.
  2. It IS possible to miss your children while still in their presence.
  3. Family and ONE good friend is all you need when in a bind. If you have this you are blessed.
  4. I don't appreciate my health and abilities enough.
  5. Babies in rainboots doing yoga is one of the cutest things...EVAH!
